Debbie Fuller Thomas
“What I Wish I’d Known”
Debbie presented what she learned from the publishing of her first book. The most important was
Wisdom. Fifteen years after writing her first story, she sold her first article written in a Junior College class. She soon learned that this was a fluke and it took many more years of writing to be published again. She carved out her writing time while her daycare children were napping. She started small with articles before her novels. Her debut novel, Tuesday Night at the Blue Moon was a finalist for both the 2009 Christy Award and the ACFW Book of the Year. Her second novel is Raising Rain.
On her blog site, Debbie asked her writing friends, “What I wish I’d known.”
Here are some of their answers.

General Meeting Thursday, August 12, 2010, 6:15 – 8:15 PM at Ascension Church, 7607 Garden Gate Drive, Citrus Heights, in the conference room.
Presented by Julie Williams
It’s been said that no character wants to play a bit part. Each should desire to be the star of your work. Whether you’re writing a novel, short story, poem, or devotional, it’s imperative that every character you create be fully developed before you write that final draft. So, we’ll look at techniques for discovering temperament and personality traits with David Keirsey’s book Please Understand Me II. We’ll glean valuable advice from Brandilyn Collins’ book Getting into Character to find our character’s core values, mannerisms, actions objectives, and inner rhythm. Then we’ll look at some great online resources to help us color our character’s passions so they leap off the page. And if you’re like me, you may learn as much about your own character as about those of whom you write.
