EVERY CHRISTIAN IN A WRITERS’ GROUP
HAS A DIVINE PURPOSE
By Marlys Johnsen Norris
Our purpose is to write about God’s love, grace and mercy. We are not merely a social group of people getting together for fellowship. We often include the principles of the Word into our writing. We join together discussing; writing techniques, critiquing, learning the skills of the trade as well as listening to special speakers with different ideas. It is a group dedicated to be a vessel and serve God. Regardless of our genre, our hearts’ desire is to, “Touch souls for Christ and write words that draw someone into the saving knowledge of His personal love for them.”
Our group is committed to listening to God’s voice. After prayer and Bible study, we desire to write words of inspiration. It matters little the individual style or personal story, for God may use them all to reach others. Our differences help to reach a wider variety of people.
The writers’ group has a set of rules and procedures designed at the inception. It is the intent of leadership to follow the guidelines and challenge the members to do likewise. The members help to build-up and edify one another in the craft of writing. We encourage new writers and each other in the process of writing.
It is the hope writers will seek to have their work published and leave a legacy to their family, the church and the world. It can be a memoir, poetry, fiction or non-fiction, devotional, drama, play, travel journal or Sunday school lessons. Writing can come from the imagination or from life experience. It has been said that, “Writing what we know is the best way to begin.” A writer is very much like an artist who paints a picture. We may create something beautiful for the eyes and ears of others.
A writer cannot improve on what God has already done, but our inspiration from God allows words that speak to the soul. Often these expressions draw others to Him at a special moment in time. All we need is to be willing to be used for His honor and Glory!
